Some technical hitches…

…and YAY definitely NOT me to blame this time! I think…

Is this happening to anyone else? I start to go through my Notifications. I see a comment so type my reply and hit send. Then I get that sad, slow circle that looks like it barely has the energy to complete itself…creeping…slowly progressing around and around…and finally a red box telling me my message has failed and to try again later.

I used to follow this instruction and wait a bit (although to be fair, probably not long enough) but the message would never send, and it seemed to struggle with a couple of fellow bloggers in particular. Now when this happens I just click into the other sites to reply, or reply via my posts.

I can live with this I guess. Maybe it is my pc? No, because it is not limited to only the pc. Maybe I am doing something wrong? Maybe it is just how it is sometimes?

But it happened to me again last night. I had quickly scanned through the Notifications, then typed the first reply, which would not send. Plan B (as described in great tactical detail above) to be implemented. A cold drink would surely help as the UK has turned into Bermuda for the last few days. Armed with something chilled I log back in. Some of the comments I just saw are no longer in the Notifications. Horror! Scroll up, down, up again just in case (I know, but hope springs eternal). Gone. Close down, go back in, still gone.

So now I am playing a version of that party game we ’enjoyed’ as kids. Where the mum uncovered a random selection of items on a dinner tray and you had a few seconds to memorise, wait a bit, then itemise. Time to deploy those skills!! See? Partying is not a waste of time after all.

Think hard, visualise the screen…who commented, who replied to my comments…and to which post… I remembered some, but have no clue if I remembered them all. This is not the first time comments or ‘likes’ have just not appeared in Notifications either. And I haven’t accidentally deleted any comments for a long time now. Really. I am a reformed blogger. Or at least a marginally more competent one.

So apologies if it looks like I have ignored you – it has not been deliberate. If someone is nice enough to make a comment or reply to mine, I always intend to respond in some way.

But also, is this just me? Does it happen to you? Can I fix it? Easily? Or shall I just jump up and down and go ‘waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah’? Yep, not gonna lie, I feel a bit better for that!

  1. Mine goes like that some times but we have a really slow internet connection. Have you sufficient comments enabled? Funny enough that happened to me yesterday I had to change my settings – discussion etc. It’s all good fun hey! Have a lovely weekend.

    1. I don’t even know what that means?! I will have to investigate! Every day is a school day… You have a lovely weekend too. Xx

  2. I’m sorry that I can’t offer any advice with your problem – I’m worse than useless when it comes to anything technological/mechanical! The main problem I’m having is that my poor little laptop is on it’s way out I’m afraid 😦 It’s sooo slow! Even though we’ve gone for this high-fibre thing it’s not made a lot of difference to it’s performance! I’m just hoping that I’m on Santa’s ‘good list’….fingers crossed!!!

    1. Well I am absolutely sure you must be, but just in case there is any scrap of doubt, I would suggest you offer to make his Christmas cards for him. He would have to reward you appropriately for that!

  3. This happens to me a lot too! I tend to blame Microsoft. But to be fair, the problem may lie elsewhere in the great unknown…. one answer (not practical, and “do not do this at home”) is throw the laptop out the window! Seriously, I clear all cookies, shut down , and go for a walk and then try again in a few hours.

  4. I keep sending people 50 messages by accident when it says it has failed, which doesn’t look at all weird or stalkerish. I’m more frustrated by my feed not showing blog posts from all of the blogs I follow. It’s very random and selective and then I miss out on lovely and exciting posts. Hope your technical gremlins go and get themselves a proper job soon and let you get on.

    1. I have that problem too. After a few days it occurs to me that I haven’t seen anything so I go and check the blog and they have posted about three times! I guess if we all know it happens then it is not so bad.

  5. Computers are frustrating. They never get the bugs out – when they make another buggy version. Ha Microsoft downloaded their upgrade 1607 on my windows 10. What a mess, nothing worked right. I deleted the upgrade and everything is back to normal.

  6. Lol! You are not alone…I blame the app on my phone, and my phone which I do feel has a few control issues, and the weather, since it rained-oh yes and our rotten internet which I personally think is battery powered by about three mice.

    1. Luckily, as I know you to be a kind and caring individual, I am sure your battery mice have the best working conditions, adequate breaks and a nice cheeseboard selection at the end of the day.

      1. Maybe you need more mice? Perhaps a little Barry White music later? Light some acorn candles? A slice of stilton and a square or two of Lindt?

  7. Some of what you describe has happened to me as well, mostly on my phone, not my laptop. I, too, have tried to respond to likes and comments to no avail. And I don’t seem to get much in my feed, either, from the blogs I follow; only a couple (including this one, thankfully) ever show up. I’m wondering if, the newer your blog is, the less you get??? Can we spell fusstration??!

    1. Lol! I often have to go check on individual blogs because they don’t show in the Reader. Right now my Notifications won’t open at sometimes! Ah well. I am old enough to remember the pre-internet world and I know which I prefer!

      1. Okay, so that way is a bit convoluted. A simpler method which I use, is to actually visit my posts and make sure I’ve replied to comments.

Other people’s posts is a bit harder, as you might not want to revisit each of them. 😦

  8. Yep I have this problem too, but to be fair, if more than one other person is on the world wide web in the village the same time as my good self my computer just has a fit of jealousy and refuses to play ball at all !!!!

  9. Puff … did you by any chance have a bally great thunder and lightning storm on Friday night? If so … turn off your equipment at the wall. Leave it for about five minutes (go and have a cup of coffee) and then plug all your equipment back in again.

Once all your equipment is up and running (it will take a short while for your connections to the internet to connect so don’t try to push your luck too soon)… once you have internet connections again, then go to the internet and do a speed test at your usual place (or at http://www.speedtest.net if you don’t have a usual place) and hopefully your speed should be back to normal.

Every now and again equipment needs to be turned off, unplugged and given a few minutes to just wind down. But especially so after a storm – as electricity builds up and all sorts of sh*t can happen.

The technical term for this is: TioTioa (Turn It Off Turn It On Again) [grins]

Hope this helps with the problems of the whizzygig (as I call it) spinning round and round and round …. on and on into eternity.
    Love ~ Cobs. x

  10. I haven’t had that happen to me. Have you tried using a different browser to see if it happens there. I seem to have better luck using Google. Sometimes Windows Explorer (IE11) or the new Windows Edge browser don’t seem to “act” right. I go in often and clear my history on every browser. Just a thought….computers can be touchy. 🙂

  11. I have that issue with a couple blogs I follow. Their comments show up in my notifications (the cute little bell in the upper right hand of my screen) but when I click on them they never show up. I don’t even get a little circle going round. I always need to go to that particular post to reply. I have no idea why. You figure it out and let me know LOL

  12. Well I know mine is incredibly slow, when I am writing a blog. I don’t know if this is all tactics to get you to become a premium blogger whereby you pay, and get the super fast mother of all internet highways speed, Good possibility though!
I would never dream of you ignoring us, not for a second, having built my own computer (with a little help), I know these things are like men, extremely unpredictable but can’t live without them! 🙂 x
