Put that reindeer down!

It’s official. I am obsessed with reindeer imagery. I had a lightbulb moment of realisation recently. You know the kind of thing, when you look at your wardrobe and suddenly notice that almost everything is black, or white, or pink (insert your colour here). So many of the cards I have made for Christmas this year feature reindeer in one form or another. And the thing is, I have more reindeer stuff I haven’t even used! Maybe there is a term for this condition. For my dignity and self-respect I hope it isn’t simply ‘fruit loop’.

Anyhow, just a quick post today as I am still feeling a bit queasy. Luckily you can’t catch this sort of virus online. So, another reindeer card. Sorry! Hope there are no reindeer-phobics out there. This card isn’t actually radioactive as the look would suggest. Just silver, with winter sun catching on it. I quite like the incandescent look though!

reindeer-header-1

This was made using a Die’sire header die that I either bought last year or was maybe a freebie with a magazine, I can’t actually remember which. I can’t find the packaging and I am not sure if it is still available, but I think they do something similar anyway. I also used the Crafter’s Companion Elegant Snowfall embossing folder, plus Marianne reindeer and Anna Griffin Joy dies, again from old stash.

  1. LOVELY, Gillian!

Maybe you can be a Rangiferoligist? One who collects or studies reindeer? (I did make the word up just now…reindeer belong to the genus Rangifer)

Has your cat hidden any more of the reindeer objects?

    1. I don’t think that anything else has gone missing, but last night he was obviously thinking he was Hunter Supreme. There were three (toy) mice scattered on the stairs at various points. I am liking the terminology, by the way. Maybe I could get Ranger to sponsor me with lots of free goodies?!

    1. Lol! Oh, I do indeed suffer from this. Nothing validates a condition better than an acronym. Maybe I need some kind of identifying bracelet in case I go into withdrawal, fashioned from reindeer images of course!

  2. Another fab card, I like the header die. Hope you feel better soon. Perhaps you were Mrs Santa in a past life, hence the love of reindeer? I like them too but don’t have any fancy reindeer stash.

  3. Oh no! Please feel better soon! I feel obscurely guilty like I’ve infected you somehow…try ginger tea. I don’t like the taste, to be honest, but it does help 🙂
Lovely card also, very pretty colour scheme. There’s a big deer made of lights in the city centre..no…really..I’m not hallucinating!

    1. Lol, like a BTD? Blogging Transmitted Disease? That could be scary! I need to live in a city with an illuminated reindeer. I think we have one tree, on a roundabout…Not exactly decking the halls.

      1. You could be right, although my mother still thinks I assumed the protective shield of Norovirus to prevent me form ever eating her shepherd’s pie again…

It’s a very large reindeer, but actually quite pretty *reaches for thinking cap* I will have to come up with a way to work a picture of it into a post… ‘Reindeer and Revelry’ perhaps…

      2. Ooh yes, definitely a post, please! I’d be tempted to use ‘reindeer and rhapsody’, as a little Christmassy gifty wordplay. Can’t resist it!!

  4. Cute card!
Sorry to hear you’re a little poorly, and hope that you’ll be fighting fit and back to your normal self before you know it.

Reindeers … If you’re happy with them, go with it. Who cares if everyone receives a card with a reindeer on it? They’re lucky to get a handmade card at all! Everyone will be thrilled with their card from you, so don’t fret over it and just go with the flow.

Sending healing thoughts and caring hugs ~ Cobs. x

    1. Thanks Cobs! I’m keen to get back to whatever ‘normal’ is too. And of course you are right, it doesn’t matter that I have a bajillion cards featuring Santa’s sleigh team, I just didn’t quite realise the scale of the fixation until I took a step back!! Penguins next year…..

    1. Thanks! And, do you remember how ages ago I said I would send you some cards, as a little gift? Well I haven’t forgotten. If you would still like some, contact me by email with your details and I will get something in the post to you. Xx

  5. Wow, at first I thought that it shines from inside! I like your reindeer-inspired designs! Snow embossing folder fits here just right.
    Get well soon!

      1. Well they are probably not as popular as they used to be – when I was a kid most people made their own, about 4 or 5 weeks before Christmas and it was called ‘Stir Up Sunday’. But they are definitely traditional and, if I were to guess, I would say the majority of homes would have one on Christmas Day. From my experience, I think men like it more than women, but I do know plenty of women that love it! It is very rich, dark and fruity. Some people douse them in alcohol and set fire to them as they bring them to the table, which looks pretty cool. Generally served with pouring cream, or a thick cream laced with brandy, or custard, or a rum butter sauce (which I have never tasted). People usually only have a small slice because it is so rich. Personally I am not a big fan. If you find it is not for you, try crumbling small amounts into soft-ish vanilla (or cinnamon if you can get it) ice cream. I like it better this way. I’ll be interested to see what you think!

      2. Oh, thank you so much, Gillian! I love such traditions, but it would be so hard to wait 5 weeks until Christmas when you have a home-made pudding ready! And this is a great idea to add some to the ice cream! I think I’ll try it this way even if I like it as it is, but we’ll have to wait until Christmas!
Imagine that setting it on fire can be impressive, but our fire alarm can go crazy and spoil the celebration…

  6. If you are giving one Christmas card per person you are going to be fine…..They will never know of the affliction you suffer from when it comes to the need to make more reindeer cards. Now….if you totally go off the deep end and start sending more than one card to people you may, then want to have another theme to go with it…..Or you could do the reindeer theme and just have them frolicking in kind of a time lapse idea…….sort of like old movie frames?

    1. OK, now is the time that I need to own up. I actually often end up sending shop-bought cards at Christmas! Ridiculous, I know, when I have all this stuff, but I often either run out of time or enthusiasm. So some people don’t get one card, let alone two!! I am suitably ashamed of myself though.

  7. Reindeer are very elegant, you can’t go wrong with them! The topper made me think of a story about my dad when he was a little boy; whenever he heard that song, “Up on the Housetop,” and it says, “reindeer pause,” he thought it was “reindeer PAWS,” and it was years before it dawned on him that reindeer don’t have paws! (I hope you feel better soon.)

    1. Lol! I love it when people have the wrong lyrics in their heads! do you know the Credence Clearwater Revival song Bad Moon Rising? For longer than I care to own up to I thought the line “there’s a bad moon on the rise” was ‘”there’s the bathroom on the right”! Made sense to me…..

  8. I hope you’re feeling better! And all the reindeer are great; I seem to be attracted to them as well. I was in a craft store a few weeks ago and saw a paper mache reindeer head, one that you’d decorate & hang on a wall or door. I can’t stop thinking about it; I think I need to go back & get one.

      1. I was going to gild it but sadly the stores I’ve been to don’t have the reindeer; I should’ve gotten it when I saw it. I could order it online, but they only come in sets of 3 online for some reason. I ended up with a conciliatory decoration: a mirrored star framed in galvanized tin with battery operated lights poking through the mirror. It’s not the same as the reindeer would have been, but it is something more sparkly than my usual wreath.

      2. The star sounds very pretty though. Maybe you can pick up the reindeer on sale after Christmas, for next year. A gilded one sounds pretty awesome!

  9. Oh what a beautiful card! You do reindeer and I do “chicks”. Hey I wonder what a reindeer-chick card would look like???? Hmmm…. Anyway, I do hope you are feeling better. I have had this cough thing for about 3 weeks…it is really getting old. I felt bad the first week, but have felt better each week. Here’s hoping you feel back to your self soon! And keep those reindeer coming! 🙂
