I feel bad…

In more ways than one. Still rather under the weather, virus gone, something else has kicked in. Basically I have spent another two days on the sofa, under blankets, watching movies. Doesn’t sound too bad if it is by choice, right? But if it is because you feel completely rubbish then it is not so darn great, frankly.

The second reason I feel bad is because I have put my faith in something that has let me down. Namely the WordPress app for my tablety-thingy. I don’t usually use it very much for WP, although there have been days where I have relied on it completely, but generally I prefer a proper keyboard. However with the pc a whole other room away it seemed a good solution to be able to keep up with everyone’s blogs whilst lounging around feeling sorry for myself.

It looked like everything was pretty quiet out there in blog land. I saw some posts from regulars, but not that many. I figured everyone had maybe started Christmas preparations, or were perhaps just slumped over the kitchen table, trying to rally themselves to hit the shops or internet with November’s pay check.

So I went back to the movie watching. Then today, as I was scrolling through, I noticed that the posts in my ‘followed sites’ feed jumped from -3hrs to -20hrs. It seemed a bit unlikely that NOBODY had posted ANYTHING four hours ago, or eight hours ago, or twelve…you get my drift.

I fired up the pc and, guess what? Posts aplenty! Loads of which I have missed. They simply do not show up in the app, or maybe it is the version I have? I don’t know. Although it has always been a bit temperamental: it keeps stopping, you have to wait 10 seconds after you have ’liked’ before you can move on, sometimes comments or likes on your posts don’t show up and so forth.

So I am sorry if I missed you, and I will try to catch up with everyone as best I can.

In the meantime, this (approximate) quote from one of the several thousand Christmas movies I have watched tickled me. I’ll set the scene. A mother becomes disillusioned with her life for various reasons. And, because it is a Christmas movie, she ends up in an alternate life, married to the wealthy chap she had dated previously. Because the money is all new to her she goes mad, and maybe makes a few OTT faux pas on the clothing/hair/makeup side. She also now has a kindly maid. The woman gets dressed up for what she hopes is a hot date night with her husband. She asks the kindly maid “What do you think? Do I have too much jewellery on?” The maid (kindly) says “well for a float in a parade, no. But for a person, yes”.

Maybe I have just watched one ten too many….

  1. Really sorry you’re still feeling pretty crummy 😦 There’s a lot of bugs around at the moment – my son has had a horrible cough for about 3 weeks now and my brother and his family all have the sickness bug going round – so I’ll be avoiding their house for a while. Mind you, it might already too late for me as I actually work with my brother…eek! As for worrying about commenting on blog posts – you just get yourself better 🙂

  2. I am sorry that you are still not feeling well! I have no wisdom to offer about the WordPress app for tablets…I only have computers (no smart phone, no tablet). GET WELL SOON!

(and have you watched “Meet Me in St. Louis” yet? Not totally a Christmas movie, but Judy Garland does sing “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”.)

    1. Thank you, I’m trying to feel better! I have a (mental) list of movies I wait until December for, and that one is on the list! I got caught out by a late night showing of White Christmas though and couldn’t resist the last half-hour!

  3. I am sorry you have been sick. Sorry wordpress let you down. The holidays are simply too busy to become sick. I like your story from the movie. I have seen ladies that look like they were dressed like floats. Funny – thanks for that good laugh. Still chuckling. Hope you are up to par very soon. xxxx and hugs

  4. I am sorry you’re still a bit under the weather, sometimes I am just overwhelmed by all the prep that needs to happen, I need to check out for a few days. Thank you for mentioning the WP app being slow, I have it on my phone, I thought it was me. Hope you are feeling back to your crafty self soon.

  5. You.Are.Not.Alone.
The app on my phone could do with a punch, actually, it updates randomly and chooses who I receive notifications from…
Christmas films…first choice ” Big”, second, “Elf”…screamingly funny- “Does somebody need a hug?”
Please get better soon, plenty of fluids and up your vitamin C intake..x

    1. Thanks! I have just had a third power cut on for or five weeks. Ridiculous! I only saw Elf for the first time last year, but I wished I had seen it sooner. Definitely on the ‘December list’ again this year.

  6. Oh, get well soon, Gillian!

I’m using mostly pc for wp, but the only one thing I can assume – this app can be outdated and needs some updates or maybe there is a newer version available…

  7. Sorry you’ve been under the weather lately! My WP phone app is crap, as I think I’ve mentioned before. I left a bad review for it in the Play Store and got a standard response which was entirely unhelpful, and after several reinstalls and updates, the problems still persist. I, too, don’t want to miss anyone’s posts – I feel we have a nice crafty little community going on! However, we all have lives beyond our blogs (do we? do we?) and technology certainly does let us down from time to time, so I don’t think any of us should feel guilty if we miss a post here and there. Now go fix yourself a hot toddy, and feel better!

    1. Yes, you are right, especially with such a busy time of year coming up we are bound to miss some. I love our little crafty community too. It’s nice to see friends on other blogs that they may have just found. Gotta love the internet!

  8. Oh gee! Hope you are better today. I use my Kindle for practically everything although for some reason wp can mix up my blogs (probably because they have similar names). Any way, when you are better, their “Happiness Engineers” are extremely helpful and can work with you via phone/email/chat if you so desire.

  9. I hope you’re feeling better today! I managed to pick something up from my nephews that’s been slowly taking over my sinuses – I’m trying not to pass it on to anyone else. I have WP problems from time to time also, both the app & on my laptop, slowdowns and not always seeing the latest posts. So, you’re not alone in that.

    1. Hope you don’t succumb to some horrid lurgy! I have different problems on my pc and tablet, so I have to remember the glitches on each one. Still, at least I am not alone!

  10. Oh dear, I hope you are feeling better…but there’s nothing better than watching Christmas movies this time of year! I don’t think I have tried to use the WordPress app on my Ipad. My PC crashed about a year ago, and after much contemplating, I purchased a laptop instead of a desktop. I found I could attach a large screen, my printer, and my scanner to the laptop. I also have an external hard driver where I keep all of my files. This way, it my computer crashes, I still have all of my files. (I have two, and use one as a backup just in case). The laptop I bought also works as a tablet. It is very thin so it is easy to use. I have never used it as a tablet as I also have an Ipad. I guess I am kind of a techie. LOL! I also liked that if i want to use the computer in the other room, I can just detach all my “accessories” and use it as a lap top. It has been a year, and I don’t miss the desktop at all. 🙂

      1. I love my 💻. I like that I can take it into any room and still be able to do what I need to do. My printer is wireless too so I don’t have to be in the same room if I need to print something. 🙃

  11. Hope you are feeling better soon. It is funny I thought it had gone quiet. The same as you I thought everyone was busy. I use the blogger reader because wp lets me down. So I thought I would check the wp reader and low and behold there were lots of posts from a few weeks back that hadn’t shown up on either reader. I think there are gremlins in the works.
    Take care,
    Hugs Flo x
