What is your favourite thing about your pet? Physically, I mean. Not their winning personality, or the fact that they like your company, don’t answer back, gaze at you lovingly and laugh at your jokes. Tails are fun, and surprisingly communicative. You can tell a lot from a tail. Ears too, tell all sorts. Alert, chilled, interested, bored, ready to pounce and maim… Whiskers – meh. Not so much. Just glorified facial hair. For me, it is paws. Cat, dog, mouse, gerbil, all good. Not so keen on hooves. They are paws with toenails, really. But soft, furry paws and pads are the best…
So, what do you love about your pet?
Oh, and in case you haven’t seen this clip… (don’t worry about the title)
Such table manners! Can somebody please just give them a second bowl?!
I love how soft her ears are!!! I stole kisses from my dog all the time lol

Haha! They are really polite! My Jack Russell just snarls at my Belgian Shepard if he gets anywhere near the water bowl, his food, guests, her, me…she is the Alpha Male in the family…after me of course! Lol! I love my dogs eyes, although they gaze too longingly at me to take them for walks when I am crafting! Have a great weekend!

Yes! Although if that were a human we were describing, for some reason it would not be quite so attractive!!

Such squishy little pink pads of awesomeness! My favourite thing about my dog is her nose; constantly moving trying to catch every stray scent of any crumb of food that might have escaped her notice…. She’s a little pig when it comes to food! Her ears are also awesome and her eyes are very expressive… And her tail… I don’t know she’s just an awesome labrador all round!!

Oh yes, labradors are full of character. I never met one that didn’t like their dinner, and everybody else’s!!

Their ability to hear me coming with food from a mile away, and their vertical take offs when they try to get the best bits of the leftovers. (Chickens aren’t particularly cute pets, at least not ours!) The ‘stupid’ one is called Sherlock… We always save a bit for her so that when she’s worked out how to get out of her house and into the covered run she has a treat too.

Brilliant name! have you noticed how chickens often bring out the funniest or cleverest naming skills in their owners?!

I wish I’d had my camera handy tonight to film Dolly’s face.. we’ve been laughing loudly! The house would be so empty without pets.. x

I agree totally. Some of the best stories come from pets, and your Dolly is full of character. I remember the ‘field’ incident you had last year!

Oh most definitely – I laugh about that just at the memory… her ‘gremlin’ moment! She’s getting cheekier with age.. xx

hahaha I love pet posts. They are so sweet and fun. The thing I love about my dog Daisy is her ears lol and she has these really sweet facial expression and when you talk to her she cocks her head. Gets me everytime. As for Leo I love his tail. He is a main coon and his tail is the longer furriest tail I have ever seen on a cat. Its beautiful.

Yep, dogs’ ears are so tactile, and gorgeous! I haven’t come across a Maine Coon other than in photos, but they are fantastic looking cats.

oh that video..I couldn’t bear it, that first cat’s face…”why can’t I have a bowl..?”
And yes..paws..Charlie has the daintiest softest little paws with two ginger toes 🙂 Mum’s pup has big pink squashy feet, and the tiny mouse I removed (alive) from the house the other day had delicate little pink handys with tiny claws!

Oh, I hope I didn’t traumatise you?! I thought the video was funny, but presumed the owners just gave them a bowl each from then on. They look well cared for! So, paws rule. They will be on our flag of office….

Oh I feel with you. I fell in love with the paws of our dog. They are so slim and he gives his paws so ladylike when asked. Just yesterday I made a video of his twitching paws while he slept and dreamed. But I also love the softness in his floppy ears.

Dogs ears are getting a lot of votes, and I agree. But YES, of course, twitching paws while your pet dreams is one of the best things! Nice to see you here again too!

Those kitty-cat pink paws are so sweet! I like my dog Kookaburra’s pink tummy–plus her tummy has a really nice aroma–like honey.

I like dogs, but cat fur is so much softer than dog fur – I guess that’s what I love most about my (4) feline pets. But I also love their eyes, when they look at you wide-eyed, and then close them half-way in trust and contentment.

Yep, cats win on the softer fur side, and winning their trust feels so great, doesn’t it? All pets are super, really!

I agree, pets are super! When we were kids, we only had birds and fish because Mom didn’t like the mess. But now that we’re grown, my sister has dogs and I have cats. The dirt and the fur are worth it!

I love my kitties’ faces. They are so very expressive. When my boy is content, his eyes close, and he just has this look. It melts me every time. My girl always looks regal. She stares you down almost scornfully.

Aww. I love kye’s tail. When he’s curled up asleep on the back of the sofa and dreaming it flicks him in the face, he has to hold it down with a leg over it

I like paws too, especially the beans (toe pads – they look like jelly beans, jelly babies?) and the tufts of fur between them. But my absolute favorite part of any animal is the belly. No matter the species, if they’ve shown you their belly, they really trust you. It’s one of the softest parts of the body and when they’re showing it to you, I can’t help but imagine trousers & suspenders on the animal.

HaHa! Sorry for the delay in replying, but I had to wait until I could use a proper keyboard. I hate typing much more than two sentences on a tablet or phone. We have a classic ‘two continents divided by one language’ situation here!! Yep, I love the jelly bean reference. Jelly Babies, however, are basically shaped like a blobby jelly human, with a head, and rather a vague nod to arms and legs. Although it would be great if paw pads were like this!!! And bellies, again, agreed. Totally adorable in a pet, or just any random animal, really. But, well, I see you kindly adopted the ‘trouser’ instead of the US ‘pants’, which always makes us Brits snicker a bit. We have never really grown up. However ‘suspenders’ is also a tricky one. I think we might call what you are thinking of as ‘braces’. They hold up trousers/pants and also straighten teeth. ‘Suspenders’ for us are what women wear to hold up stockings. So, a little furry pet in both trousers and suspenders is quite an image! Made me laugh! Xx

Ah – jelly babies! I asked Google about them and now see that they’re a plump great grandparent to Sour Patch Kids, which I hope/trust are in the UK also. Paw pads (and shoe treads) would be really interesting if they looked like jelly babies – we’d all be Gulliver squishing the Lilliputians. Also, this makes me think that the international language isn’t love, or love alone, but candy and the love for candy. Re: trousers, I just like the way it sounds as opposed to the US pants or, worse, “slacks,” which is what my grandmother called them. So I asked Google about trousers and pants and I think we might be talking about different things; I’m talking about outer garments, not underwear, which are pants to you, short for underpants? And braces, yes, that’s exactly what I was thinking of, not UK suspenders – those are garters in the US. But now I’m thinking of cats and humans wearing underpants with braces – maybe that’s where Kubrick got the aesthetic for A Clockwork Orange? (Also, I love conversations like this! Thank you!)

Oh, yes, ‘slacks’!! Images of mail order catalogues and polyester garments with a stitched narrow seam down the front, to save on the ironing… And I had images of animals rather uncomfortably wearing both trousers and suspenders (British version) or pants and garters (US version)! They would look like they had been dressed by Madonna’s stylist in the 1990s! Like you say, let’s stick to candy. Except we call it ‘sweets’….
