Mother’s Day Cards

Either late, or early depending on where you live!

These are the cards I made for Mother’s Day this year. I waited until after the day as my mother reads all my blog posts. She also still watches to make sure I cross the road safely, and yet this is something I have been accomplishing without incident for years…

For the first I used some Tonic dies I have had for a long time. They are very adaptable as you can cut the hearts out completely or leave them in the card. I decided to make a kind of layered window effect, so the top layer has the larger heart cut into it and the second layer has the smaller sentiment. It doesn’t show up too successfully in my pictures, I’m afraid! As I was going for an all cream card I thought I needed a bit more interested so rummaged through my embossing folder trough and selected one from Sizzix that has some pretty details but is not an all-over pattern. Sometimes a little bit of blank space is good. I tied the ribbon knot and thought I had finished, but then changed my mind and added the trail of pearls too.

The second card is made with Dovecraft Floral Muse papers. I know I have used these a few times now, but they are my current ’go to’ when really pretty and feminine patterns are required. I was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest, but I changed it up a bit and added several details of my own. The various layers of papers were edged with Vintage Photo Distress Ink to give them some definition. Butterflies were fussy cut from one of the pages in the pad and then I spent ages trying to find a good match in my ink colours for the sentiment. Many a green was tried and tossed and finally I went with Brilliance Pearlescent Beige. A few more pearls again (well, why not?) and I was happy. Oh, and another doily from my doily mountain has been used….

Supplies: Dovecraft Floral Muse paper pad; Clearly Besotted Mini Banner stamp and die; Tonic On Mother’s Day Affections Insert die set; Sizzix embossing folder (it has no name on it!); string pearls from The Ribbon Room and individual pearls from Dreamees

      1. Really, I’ve been known to snitch the little paper doilies used in restaurants on your tea cup saucer and add them to my stash. (I guess my doily mountain isn’t as tall as yours yet; more of a doily foothill!)

  1. The cream on cream is gorgeous. I agree with Kathy D–the trail of pearls gives that little bit of contrast in material. So pretty.

  2. Two absolutely beautiful cards Gill! I love the pearls and the embossed detail on the first and the all-cream colour scheme. The papers on the second card are so delicate and pretty along with the lovely doily. I bet your Mum was thrilled to bits 🙂

      1. I’m a big fan of the pearl detailing at the moment, and I believe I have such a card still…macaroni and poster paint 🙂

  4. Beautiful Mothers Day cards. I know Mothering Day is over in your area, but here in the U.S. we celebrate Mother’s Day the second Sunday in May. So early and late fits the celebration – xoxo

    1. Sorry I am so late in replying, and Thank You! I remember Mother’s Day is later for you as we have some family in the US. I wish it was later in the year here too – March is a bit of a grim month sometimes and it would be much nicer to celebrate in warmer weather!

  5. Aw these are so beautiful Puff.

Love the Floral Muse card. It has a soft vintage feel to it, and is so feminine. Really pretty. (You have a doily mountain too? [GASP] I thought I was alone on the mountain. Thank heavens for crafty blogging pals eh? They remove your guilt. lol

Adore the white card. The die cutting, the embossing and the layering – all perfection. So feminine, so lady-like and so delicate looking. I absolutely love it.
Well done you clever thing! Two really fabulous makes.

    1. Yeah, I gave away a few hundred, but still have about that amount of doilies left! And using one at a time is going to make little difference. I need a bake sale, but then I’d want to make cupcake wrappers, and little boxes…. Thanks for the kind words about the cards!! Xx

      1. If you do a bake sale … don’t forget to invite all your WordPress friends. 🙂 😀
Maybe you and I need to make more cards with doilies on (or coilies as I just typed. lol)

The cards are beautiful Puff. Great makes. Both of them. xxx
